Hey guys! A while back I had posted on Instagram about recommendations for Alopecia areata (known as spot baldness where hair is lost in some or all areas of the body). Many of you asked what some of the recommendations were, so here is a list of what I was recommended.
• This cruelty-free shampoo from Lush with outstanding reviews especially for people who have thin, brittle and weak hair. Product link: https://www.lush.ca/en/hair/shampoo-bars/new/9999907236.html I also saw reviews from women who have thyroid disease and have claimed that this has helped with their hair growth and volume – I am definitely going to be trying this. I currently use Olaplex and it is amazing but it only maintains my hair and my hair really does feel way better, looks and is healthier based on all the compliments I receive but unfortunately, it doesn’t prevent my hair from falling out
• Rosemary oil before bed and wash hair in the AM
• Onion juice in your hair for 30 minutes before washing it
• A scalp massager and using it everyday – the key is to be consistent and it will maintain your hair based on what all these women have told me.
• Low iron can be a cause of hair loss, so taking iron pills will help
• Biotin vitamins
• Invati System from Aveda (97% natural!) Aveda products are known to be phenomenal considering they are mostly derived from natural products! Amazing
• Coconut oil before bed and washing in the AM – I did this and rosemary oil last night
• Steroid injections – these work! And according to a friend who did her research and has seen multiple doctors has claimed it is completely safe and harmless
• Seeing a naturopath and/or acupuncturist as they have many natural recommendations and products you can try
• Red Pimento Oil from Amazon
• Castor oil
• Mane and tale shampoo and conditioner
• Check cortisol levels by visiting your doctor
• Rogaine
• Birth control
• Materna vitamins
The only things I have tried are steroid injections, coconut oil and biotin vitamins. I will be trying the lush shampoo and iron pills as recommended by my doctor due to low iron. If you have any other recommendations, please let me know!
